Natural Parks in the Region Alhama de Granada
In the region you find the Natural Park; " Parque Natural de las Sierras Tejeda, Armijara and Alhama" which is situated in the south, close to the coast. It is partly situated in the province of Malaga and partly in the province of Granada. It is 40.663 ha big and has a lot of pine trees and carved canyons. The park has fast flowing rivers and spectacular waterfalls like the "Los Arboles Pertificados" where the water has petrified old tree trunks that where stucked when the fall down a waterfall. "Tajos de Alhama" has been declared natural monument in 2011 and is only 26 ha big, but very impressive with its very steep canyon. A hiking route is starting in town and is going into the canyon and leads you along the river . At the botom of the canyon you have an impressive view on the town Alhambra and can see that they build it on a very steep clif. The route is ending at a small lake.
