The town of Busquístar is part of the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, located on the south side and surrounded by a large chestnut forest. It is situated on 1100 meters above sea level and has only 278 inhabitants (2017). After the Moorish period it was very inhabited. A lot of families were depending on the iron mines, that were open until recently. The village has kept a lot of its history and it is very nice to take a walk through it.
Busquístar has splendid landscapes and numerous enclaves in the mountains in which you can practice hiking and practice adventure sports. It is also worthwhile to enjoy its unique tinaos, since it is one of the localities that best conserves the traditional architecture of Alpujarra, with houses perfectly adapted to the broken terrain and the climatology of the place, which is arranged by narrow and steep streets.
