The village is located at 919 meters above sea level and has 1515 inhabitants (2013). It is located in the central south of the region. Cádiar consists of the villages of Cádiar Narila and Yátor.
It is nestled between the majestic Sierra Nevada and the Contraviesa with the River Guadalfeo, among olive trees, almond trees, oaks and vineyards. It has excellent restaurants and a winery, Barranco Oscuro, where some quality red and white wines are produced.
