Soportúgar

The village is located at 927 meters above sea level and has 287 inhabitants. Soportújar shows one of the most distinctive architectural structures of the Alpujarras. Thanks to its numerous 'tinaos' or arcades (a kind of passage that due to the slope of the land, obliged the streets to pass under the houses). In town you have a stunning viewpoint where you can directly observe the Mediterranean Sea and even the African coast on clear days.

Festivities in Soportúgar

On the 17th of January San Anton is celebrated;
The fair of the witches is celebrated from Monday to Friday before the 15th of August;
The fiestas of the patron of San Roque are celebrated around the 16th of August.

Church: La iglesia parroquial de Santa María la Mayor (1677);
Cueva del Ojo de la Bruja (cave of the witch);
Thematic Center of Witches;
Statue of the Witches and viewpoint;
Natural Park Sierra Nevada. Dique 24: located in the river Chico River with a fantastic waterfall;
Oseling Buddhist Center located at a important height and was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama;
The ruins of a mineral laundry from the Arab period;
Puente Palo at 1,750 meters built by ICONA, equipped with fountains, tables and services. Between Puente Palo and the "Vivero Sombra" (1300 meters) they have created an intesive forest area with pines, salgareño, wild and rodeno, Atlas cedar, American oak, maple negundo, etc. Here passes the Great canal and are the springs “de las Rosas” and “ El Gato”.
