The heart of Cortes de Baza is located on the of riverbanks of Castril, halfway its birthplace in the heart of the Natural Park of Sierra de Castril and the reservoir Negratín.The area in which Cortes de Baza was founded has been human settlement since prehistoric times. Numerous remains have been found around the area known as Hoya de Baza and from many different cultures: a jaw mammoth argáricos bowls and objects of Iberian villages, Phoenicians and Romans.
