Cortes de Baza

The village is situated at 701 meters above sea level and has 2098 inhabitants (2014). The heart of Cortes de Baza is located on the of riverbanks of Castril, halfway its birthplace in the heart of the Natural Park of Sierra de Castril and the reservoir Negratín.The area in which Cortes de Baza was founded has been human settlement since prehistoric times. Numerous remains have been found around the area known as Hoya de Baza and from many different cultures: a jaw mammoth argáricos bowls and objects of Iberian villages, Phoenicians and Romans.

Church: Iglesia de la Encarnación (15th century);
Watch tower: "Torre de La Cañada" (16th century);
Chapel: "Ermita de los Santos Médicos";
Roman baths in Los Laneros;
Castle ruins, of which are only foundations and remains of the walls left over.

Festivities in Cortes de Baza

"Los Santos Medicos" celebrated from the 18th until the27th of September; this feestial is including the festival of the Moors and Christians;
The town fair: "Feria de Agosto", the penultimate weekend in August;
"Los Gales" from 23 to 26 August.
"Fiestas de San Cosme y San Damián", from the 26th to the 27th September;
Las Cucharetas in Los laneros, Campocámara and in La Teja is a very simulate to the " la fiesta de las cruces" on the 3rd of May.
In "Los laneros" the summer festival is celebrated in the second weekend of July.
