The Most Spectacular Canyons in Granada


The Canyon of Castril - Castril (Altiplano):  One of the most famous canyons in the province. The hiking trail is sticked to the rock wall, which makes this canyon very special. Halfway the trail you have to cross the river by a suspension bridge and directly pass a large tunnel..



Tajos de la Hoz - Moclín (Loja):  Along the river Velillos is a very nice walking trail which is passing to the canyon that has been eroded by the river. You can start in the village Moclin itself, what will take you in total a 10 km walk or you can start at Fuente de Corcuela, what takes.....



Los Cahorros de Monachil - Monachil (Vega de Granada):  One of the most visited canyons in the province; because of its beauty and its situation close to Granada city. The canyon is very large and you can walk walk a one way trail which goes back over the mountain or......



Los Cahorros de Nigüélas - Nigüélas (Valle Lecrin):  A very nice canyon although the hiking trails in some parts have dissapeared, but by following just the river you will encounter stunning views. The most beautifull part is  at the end which is a little bit difficult to reach.........



Los Tajos de Cacín - Cacin (Alhama de Granada):  The cliffs of Cacín are one of the most beautiful cliffs in the province, although they are not well known. Inside the canyon there is a marked hiking trail which goes from the damm of the lake Bermejales to the bridge of Cacín..........



Rio Verde - Otivar  The canyon that has been formed by the river "Rio Verde" is a very popular destination for people who love canyoning but alos for popele who love hiking. The canyon is situated in the Natural Park Sierra de la Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama. The park has fast flowing....



Los Tajos de Alhama - Alhama  "Tajos de Alhama" has been declared natural monument in 2011 and is only 26 ha big, but very impressive with its very steep canyon. A hiking route is starting in town and is going into the canyon and leads you along the river. At the botom.........



Barranco del Baño & Río Dúrcal - Dúrcal  This place is situated close to Dúrcal in the Lecrín Valley. It is interesting, because on only a few hundred meters of each other you can encounter three hot springs, a castle ruin, a natural cave and a lovely waterfall!........

Barranco de la Luna - Saleres (Valle Lecrin):  A very nice narrow canyon with very steep walls. The exceptional beautiful trail that goes through the canyon is only 2,6 km long with a difference of 100 meters of altitude, but it has its difficulties. The trail is partly going through.........

Barranco de la Valenciano - Albuñol (Costa Tropical): The Narrows of the Rambla del Valenciano, are located in the Sierra de la Contraviesa, in the lower part of the Alpujarra. It is a ravine runoff, which has only water during the rainy season. The best way to visit this canyon is.........

Barranco de la Mina - Albuñol (Costa Tropical):  "This canyon which is also named Barranco de las Angosturas, is most of the time dry and is only accessible for people with experience. Access to the gorge is by a narrow lane at the entrance of the village coming from the coast..........

Barranco de El Buitre - Castril (Altiplano):  Narrow, short and very upright canyon with two impressive 25-meter rappels at the end. Over the time the river has carved this canyon into the rock but the ravine is mostly dry. If you get caught in a storm a lot of water is discharged.........
