The Calahorra Castle stands on a hill 1,250 meters above sea level that dominates the Marquis of Cenete. The building was a pioneer in the start of the civil architecture of the Spanish Renaissance. The sober outside outlook provides a wrong picture of the distinguished interior decoration. The castle was built in a short time (the decoration was completed in the period 1509 to 1512). For the construction they used stonework of the Arab fortress that was previously located on the hill and, for the workmanship, materials were imported from Italy.
