The Castle Ruins of Castril

The castle of Castril is of Almohad origin and was one of the best defensive bastions through its majestic presence on a rock next to the abruptness of the environment and the impassable canyon of the river Castril, which discouraged immediately possible invaders.

There were ceramic remains found on the hillside above, dating back from the medieval occupation (11th century. The castle Castril was also mentioned by Muslim sources in the thirteenth century. In the Moorish period it was finally appearing as "villa", a frontier of great importance because it was one of the closest to Christian Advancement, the Cazorla border that was controlled by Nazari strengths.
