Cogollos de Guadix is nestled between the river and the canyon Lugros Bernal. Much of his municipality is within the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada. Cogollos is located on the north edge of the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, part of the mountain space that the Arabs called Sened. However, its origins are much older: numerous coins and jewels of the Roman Empire have been found. Other historians defend the thesis that this Roman settlement was established on the Argaric Culture of an earlier period. Established around its deposits of iron and copper. After conquering, the Catholic Kings aceded the village to the Marquis de Villena and it was under that jurisdiction until the nineteenth century when the manors finally were abolished. It was a refuge for the Moors during their revolt and suffered repression accordingly.
