Esfiliana was in 1974, merged into the municipality of Valley Zalabí. Esfiliana means in Roman Ex-Julia ("outside Guadix"), it was founded by the first Christians arrived in Acci (Guadix) around the year 306 AD.
With the arrival of the Muslims its name changed to Tustar or Xustar, and in the sixteenth century it was again Yxfilyana. After the rebellion of the Moors, in 1568, it was depopulated due to the expulsion of its 25 neighbors, repopulated later with some old Christians.
