Jérez del Marquesado

Its origins date back to prehistoric times, to the culture of Argar with traces of Neolithic. There were mining operations in the Bronze Age which continue in Roman times. In Roman times the population would be called sericus or Sericis to what the Arabs would call Mecina or Alcazar (castle) and Xeriz (Seda) by the coexistence of two villages.

The town center has an important collection of Moorish houses, mills, the remains of two medieval fortresses and a Mudejar church. The remains of Arab baths that are located near the chuch are also preserved.
