Polícar

The origins of this place as center of population seems to date back to the time of the Roman Empire, although it was during the Islamic domination when it reached its highest development.

In this period its structure and narrow streets with its unique architecture were formed. In the Nasrid kingdom it was a dependent farmhouse of Beas de Guadix, then called Beas of the Captives.

It was conquered by Ferdinand in 1489 and after the rebellion and subsequent expulsion of the Moors it was practically deserted. Years later it was occupied by settlers that were mainly from Castilla.

Festivities in Polícar

On the 16th of January San Anton is celebrated;
From the 1st till the 3rd of February San Blas and the Candelaria are celebrated;
Semana Santas is celebrated with Eastern;
The Dia the Señor is celebrated on the 3rd of June;
The festivities in honor of the patron San Antonio are celebrated on the 13th and the 14th of June;
San Pedro is celebrated on the 29th of June (procession);
The day of San Santiago is celebrated with a pick nic in the fields on the 25th of July;
On the 15th of August are the festivities of the Virgen Fatima celebrated (procession).
