Moclín

The municipality comprises the towns of Moclín, Puerto Lope, Olivares-including the neighborhoods of Las Casillas, Cerro Alto, Cerro Bajo, Las Majadillas, Nacimiento y Yesares, Tiena, Tózar, Limones y Gumiel.

Numerous archaeological sites can be found in this county (dolmens, necropolis and cave paintings). It is clear that there was human settlement since prehistoric times, specifically in the Neolithic era. With the arrival of the Romans several villas were raised (Tiena, Olivares) and the siloas of Tózar.

There are also remains of a Visigoth cemetery, which despite its name was from the Arabic Hisn Moclín, meaning Castle District. This was a border land in many historical periods and had also important fortresses and numerous watchtowers which served to communicate. In July 1486 it was conquered by Ferdinand and became one of the Seven Villas obliged to maintain Granada. This rich historical legacy, together with an excellent geographic framework has made this town a tourist area of great variety.

On the 17th of January the festivities os San Anton are celebrated;
La Candelaria is celebrated the night before the 2nd;
On the 5th of October the pilgrimage of Santo Cristo del Paño is held;
