The municipality comprises the towns of Íllora-capital municipal, Alomartes, Tocón, Escóznar, Obéilar, Brácana, Ventas de Algarra, Vallequemado and La Alhondiguilla. In Íllora there are archaeological remains from prehistoric times, mainly from the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. Around 600 BC the Carthaginians disembarked on the Iberian Peninsula imposing authority over the Phoenicians and was called Illurco. Also the Romans left their marks and later it was occupied by the Arabs, christians and also the Napoleon troops.
Íllora is situated at the beginning of Sierra Parapanda. Next to the village you find multicolour landscapes of olive groves and cultivated fields that descend to the Vega de Genil. To the east you can see the contracts of the Sierra Nevada.
