Carmen del Aljibe del Rey is located in the heart of Albaicín between the Ziri wall and the Placeta del Cristo de las Azucenas. This building has recently been restored and is today property of the Agua Granada Foundation, who created here a Water Interpretation Centre.
This center is showing the importance of water during the Andalusian period with the use of the canals and an advanced supply system of that time. In the same building is the largest cistern (11th century) of Albaicín located. It is also known as Aljibe and cistern Viejo Real (al-Qadim). The interior of the tank has been prepared for visits.
Requests for groups visits needs to take place from Monday to Friday from 10: 00h to 14:00 h by filling this form. Individually visits can visit the center from Monday to Friday at 12:00h.
