Corral del Carbon is a repository of merchants and is the oldest monument of Arab Granada. It was built during the Moorish reign, before 1336, and his original name was Al-Funduq al-Gidida, or Alhóndiga Nueva.
Located south of the Muslim city, next to the silk market or Alcaiceria,it served as storage for merchants in transit, warehousing and wholesale market. A small bridge that was called al-qantara al-Jadida (new bridge) until 1501, and later coal bridge, located on the river Darro the storage place was used for communication with the souks (currently the river Darro is streaming underneath the streets and is al covered until the moment it connects with the river Genil).
