The Quéntar Dam was inaugurated on May 11, 1976. It is settled in the hill Bermejales (where you enter the swamp), and the hill of Castillejo. Its wall has a height of just over 100 meters and it has a capacity of 13 and a half million cubic meters. The immediate purpose of the reservoir is to supply water to the city of Granada and to the Vega for irrigation. Together with Canales, it is able to supply water to a population of over 300,000 inhabitants and irrigation to 10,000ha.
