The village is situated at 724 meters above sea level and has 11.844 inhabitants (2014). Located in the central part of the Vega of Granada, about 4 km from Granada city center and bordering to it by its southeastern part.
The town sits on the river bank of the Rio Monachil and at the foothills of Sierra Nevada. Its economic activities are hospitality; with famous steakhouses, agriculture, wine production and livestock. Serves as a second home to some of the inhabitants of the capital or as a dormitory town for its proximity and accessibility thanks to the South Granada highway. Among his most coveted delicacies include the famous wine Huétor, green beans with ham and sausage, which can be tasted in the numerous restaurants throughout the city. The town is the home of the old "Camino de los Neveros", a route of carriers with their horses, responsible for transporting, the ice from the Sierra Nevada for the consumption of the city of Granada. Today this no longer used for this purpose, but it is a beautiful path to go by foot, horseback or bicycle.
