The village is situated at 557 meters above sea level and has 3.260 inhabitants (2014). The first data referring to this municipality belong to the Neolithic. This population chose the most fertile lands to settle. Subsequently, the town was inhabited by Turduli, Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans. Lacher, higher location and close to the river Genil, housed some of these villages; Lacen was the Phoenician, the Al-achar Muslim and Christian Láchar. Lacher was strongly hit by the frequency of the battles occurred and the devastation of their fields in order to eliminate the main supply source of Granada.
