Láchar

The village is situated at 557 meters above sea level and has 3.260 inhabitants (2014). The first data referring to this municipality belong to the Neolithic. This population chose the most fertile lands to settle. Subsequently, the town was inhabited by Turduli, Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans. Lacher, higher location and close to the river Genil, housed some of these villages; Lacen was the Phoenician, the Al-achar Muslim and Christian Láchar. Already in the Nasrid period reached great splendor, reflected in the frequent references to the wealth of their farmsteads. In the years that preceded the Conquest of Granada.

Lacher was strongly hit by the frequency of the battles occurred and the devastation of their fields in order to eliminate the main supply source of Granada. After the conquest and expulsion of the Moors, repopulation was performed with Castilian, Asturian and Galician. Since then its population has grown uninterruptedly until a slight regression in 1960-1981. To its municipality belongs also Peñuelas. In the center of the village is a castle situated that is in private hands and unfortunately can not be visited.

Festivities in Láchar

Las Candelarias are celebrated on the 2nd of February with different camp fires in the streets;
On the Saturday closest to the 15th of May are the festivities of San Isidro Labrador celebrated;
The popular festivities of Lachar are held in the last weekend of August;
On the 7th of October are the festivities held in honor of Nuestra Señora del Rosario;
