The village is situated at a level of 890 meters above sea level and has 2.290 inhabitants (2014). The first settlers of Castril were the Romans, who used his famous Peña as protection for a military camp that later became a village. In fact, the name could be derived from the term castro (camp). Under Muslim rule became a fortified city and was christened Hisn (Castle) Qastal. Castril is an excellent place to stay if you love nature and the typical authentic villages of Andalucia.
